What's your favorite science fiction novel, series or short story?
BQ: What's your favorite fictional religion? Meaning, one only practiced by the characters in a novel? Don't be cute and name a religion practiced by real people.
Novel: I Robot by Isaac Asmov(the movie sucked, and didn't resemble the plot of the book even a little). Songs of Distant Earth by Arthur C. Clark was also quite thought provoking, and besides he's on of my favorite "hard" science fiction authors. I love Kurt Vonnegut's stuff, but I'm not sure if it would be classified more as black satire than sci-fi.
Short Story: This one goes to Asmov again. The Final Question is one of the best short stories I've ever read, in the science fiction genre or otherwise. Highly recommended.
Series: this one is easy. Dune, ftw.
Fictional religion: Omnianism from Discworld.
