Why is Excel 07 so damn slow??
Ok here's the deal. My boss bought me a new system with Vista OS and Office 07 bundle. Excel is so freakin slow. It drags, lags and is glitchy. It can not keep up with simple data input. No fancy formulas, pivot charts, etc. just simple # input and some words. I have to wait forever just to what I haved typed let alone I try to save something. Hmmm can we say it hangs, becomes unresponsive then crashes. Kinda like an excel corpse. Restart program then wait for it to load again... slooowww. Then it wants to fix my "problem" and send information to MS. Well that's another few mins. Again try to input simple #'s and words and again slow as hell. Try to print well that may take a few mins. Let alone switch between screens. WTF?? It's basically a tease. After 20 - 30 mins of screwing around no spread sheet or satisfaction. Just frustration. I am ready to uninstall and go back to Office 03.HELP!!
Hi there,
I have Excel 2007 running on Vista and have no problems. Try this - there is a cool tool in Vista that tells you whether your system needs upgrading (such as RAM, video cards, etc. Right click on the "Computer" icon on your desktop. Select "Properties", under the heading "System" click on the "Windows Experience Index". (I know you are probably thinking what?! this is a brand new computer - but believe me there are lots out there that don't have the "guts" to run Vista even if they say they are Vista Ready.)
Notice there are 5 components and each component has a rating. Mine are as follows:
Processor - 4.6
Memory (RAM) - 4.5
Graphics - 3.1
Gaming Graphics - 3.1
Primary hard disk - 4.3
Here's what the numbers mean. A perfect number is 5.9 but currently no computer exists with this rating (Microsoft anticipated that systems would get better in the future) - the current top rating is 5.0.
For Excel you don't have to worry about the graphic cards but the RAM, the Processor and the Primary Hard Disk could affect you. If they are lower than a 4.0 you may want to consider upgrading. But check out the "Learn How to Improve Your Computer's Performance" (at the top of the page) for information about your system.
You can also contact MS directly about your Excel installation problem - since it is a new system you should be able to receive free support. I don't know which country you are from so select this website and under contact information select your country. http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/
Hope this helps.
