can anybody recommend a dvd on how a classical oil painting picture is constructed?
On this site they sell videos on classical painting, they have a couple of online demos as well

Tony ryder has a book on drawing, in which he explains his method of drawing. It is really good and i recommend it.
This other site artrenewal.org, is one of my favorite sites. It has a huge collection of art from the mid 18th century to the late 19th century, as well as a large collection of art throughout history. If you look through the articles you will find a couple of tutorials on drawing and painting. This link will direct you to an online book within the site that helped me greatly on getting started with art materials, you might find it helpfull as well.
