What are really good colored pencils, or any type of drawing utensils?
I need to draw a big black camera and I want a colored pencil or something along those lines that is really dark and blends really well. Regular colored pencils leave those tiny whites dots, they don't blend very well and they are not dark at all. Please help!! This project is super important!
By "little white dots," I believe you're talking about the paper showing through?
1: Drawing a large, solid black area with a colored pencil is miserable, time-consuming, and easy to smear. First, I recommend buying a black Prismacolor Artstix for $1.50. It's exactly the same material they put in the colored pencils, but there's no wood around it, so you can use the side and cover a lot more area quickly.
2: Second, consider using ink for the darkest black areas, then coloring over it with the Artstix or pencil the keep the texture uniform. Otherwise, to defeat those little white dots, you'll be grinding black into the paper for a long time. It'll wear you out.
Finally, if a dark, rich picture is the goal, most paints and inks can get you there faster. If you must use pencils, find a sturdy paper, because you'll be scrubbing colors into it pretty hard.
I did one caricature with black Artstix and ink. Take a look at the blackest areas, along the right side of the face, and decide if that's what you're after.
